Minority Urges Government to Clear Outstanding UK Scholarship Fees for Ghanaian Students.

The Minority in Parliament has called on the government to urgently release funds to settle the fees of Ghanaian students on scholarship in the United Kingdom

The Minority Caucus has revealed that Ghanaian students on UK scholarships have not received any financial support for the 2024/2025 academic year, leaving many of them in serious distress. The situation has worsened as several of the students had their visas expire in January 2026, putting their stay at risk.

Speaking to the media, the Member of Parliament for Savelugu, Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, called for urgent government action to prevent possible deportation and disruption to the students’ education. She explained that some students, in an attempt to comply with UK immigration laws, applied for graduate visas after their permits expired on January 30, 2026.

She further disclosed that many of the affected students have exhausted their personal savings while waiting for government support. As a result, some have had to rely on food banks just to survive, while also struggling to pay for accommodation and other basic needs.

The Minority also indicated that a number of students who applied for graduate visas have been denied because their tuition fees remain unpaid. They described the situation as deeply troubling, emphasizing that no Ghanaian student sponsored by the state should be subjected to such hardship.
