Police Neutralize Two Suspects, Seize Weapons in Obuasi-Dunkwa Highway Operation.
The Ghana Police Service has said an intelligence-led operation by the Ashanti South Regional Police Command has disrupted a suspected armed robbery gang operating along the Obuasi-Dunkwa Highway, leading to the deaths of two suspects and the arrest of several others.

The Ghana Police Service has killed two armed robbery suspects following a security operation on the Obuasi-Dunkwa highway on March 10 and 11, 2026. The operation was launched after police received credible intelligence that a gang of armed men had gathered in a bush along the highway, allegedly planning a robbery.
According to police, officers who arrived at the scene encountered four armed suspects. The suspects reportedly opened fire and attempted to flee, prompting the officers to return fire. Two of the suspects were fatally wounded during the exchange, while the other two escaped.
The deceased have been identified as David Aheto, 42, from Sogakope but residing in Assin Fosu, and Illiasu Bawa, 32, from Banda Nkwanta in the Savannah Region. Both were pronounced dead on arrival at Bekwai Municipal Hospital.
Police recovered an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 28 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, a pump-action gun with five BB rounds, eight additional rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, and a spent BB cartridge from the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were linked to a series of robberies in Obuasi, Dunkwa, Wasa Akropong, and Assin Fosu. Intelligence reports also indicate that Samuel Agyei, also known as “Africa” and currently in remand at Wasa Akropong, is connected to the gang.
Authorities further allege that Abdalah Alhassan, popularly known as “Alhaji Abdalah” of Asawase in Kumasi, sold the recovered AK-47 to the group for GH¢45,000 and supplied other firearms to the gang.
A follow-up operation on March 11 led to the arrest of Aminu Iddrisu, also known as “0244,” who guided police to a hidden AK-47 rifle and a Bruni pistol concealed in a sheep pen at Moshie Zongo in Kumasi. Another suspect, Daniel Debrah, 24, was also taken into custody, and police recovered a red Toyota Corolla believed to have been purchased with proceeds from the gang’s criminal activities.
