KPEBU URGES KISSI AGYEBENG TO STEP DOWN OVER LEADERSHIP CONCERNS AT OSP

Martin Luther Kpebu, a legal practitioner and petitioner for the removal of the Special Prosecutor, has insisted that William Kissi Agyebeng is not fit for the Office he occupies

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has called for the removal of the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, arguing that he lacks the integrity and capacity required to lead the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

According to Mr. Kpebu, the Special Prosecutor has conflicted himself with the office and does not deserve to continue his mandate, particularly after what he described as the failure to prosecute former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Speaking on TV3’s Ghana Tonight on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, Mr. Kpebu stated that Mr. Agyebeng’s actions demonstrate that he does not possess the necessary qualities to effectively lead the country’s anti-corruption institution. He insisted that the office needs new leadership to restore confidence in its work.

His remarks come after Mr. Agyebeng appealed to civil society organisations to protect and preserve the Office of the Special Prosecutor, stressing their important role in ensuring the institution remains effective in the fight against corruption.

Addressing participants at the National Dialogue on the role and impact of the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Agyebeng highlighted the level of public confidence in the OSP since its establishment. He noted that a large number of Ghanaians supported the creation of an independent anti-corruption body separate from the Attorney-General’s office, with many expressing greater trust in the OSP.

He explained that this public support reflects the impact of the office’s work and the need to sustain its operations.

Mr. Agyebeng also indicated that he has begun preparing for life after office, stating that his tenure has been guided by purpose and reflection. He emphasized that the responsibility of maintaining the OSP should not depend solely on its leadership but also on civil society and the general public.

However, Mr. Kpebu maintained that while the Office of the Special Prosecutor must be preserved, its current head should step aside for a more competent person to take over.

He stressed that the fight against corruption is bigger than any individual and urged Mr. Agyebeng to resign quickly to allow new leadership to move the institution forward.
