PAC Chair Expresses Worry After Majority MPs Leave Sitting to Form Quorum in Parliament
Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Abena Osei-Asare, has raised concerns over the disruption of a committee sitting following the withdrawal of Majority members to attend plenary proceedings.

The Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Abena Osei-Asare, has raised concerns after some Majority Members of Parliament left a committee sitting to help form a quorum in the main chamber of the Parliament of Ghana.
Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, March 25, Mrs Osei-Asare explained that the committee had begun its work on the Auditor-General’s report on government payables and commitments as of December 2024 at 9:00 a.m. However, the meeting was interrupted around 11:15 a.m. when members from the Majority side were asked to leave to support proceedings in the chamber.
She noted that the departure of key members made it impossible for the committee to continue its work, forcing the session to be suspended and stakeholders who had been invited to participate to be asked to return at a later date.
The PAC Chair expressed concern about meeting the committee’s deadline and appealed for direction on how to proceed since the work had already started within the given timeframe.
In response, the Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, rejected claims that the Majority was trying to disrupt the committee’s work.
He explained that the decision was due to the heavy parliamentary workload and an earlier agreement to prioritise plenary business.
He further assured Parliament that the committee would still have enough time to complete its assignment and submit its report within the required timeline.
